Critical Learning Standards
Each curricular area at Palatine High School has identified a set of Critical Learning Standards that represent the expectation of baseline student knowledge for each course taught in that curricular area. These Art department standards were created using the National Core Arts Standards as a guide.
Art department CLS are grouped into three categories. Within those categories, each Art class has a differing set of standards.
Process
1) Experience a variety of mediums and artistic processes.
2) Exhibit the proper use and care of tools, materials and media.
Learn the tools of an Artist.
Context
1) Accumulate a basic knowledge of art history and role of art in specific societies.
2) Gain an awareness of art careers and the function of art and how the arts shape society.
Language
1) Identify, understand and apply the elements of art.
2) Demonstrate an understanding of the design process and the principles of art.
3) Display the ability to appreciate and critique an artwork.
